Volunteering opportunities

Signposting volunteer

At our foodbank sessions we want to sure that every client can speak to a volunteer about any further support needs they might have.

As a Signposting Volunteer, you’ll work with our food bank clients, exploring any issues they might have and supporting them in the right way.

You might give them information, signposting to another organisation, or supporting the client to complete forms. This role will be fully supported by the foodbank team lead and a professional advice worker.

You will be fully trained in providing signposting support – you just need to be a people-oriented person.

Trustee

Join our team of volunteer Trustees and support the management of our food bank. As a Trustee, you’ll play a strategic role, supporting important decision-making and devoting the time and effort to running our organisation.

Social Media Coordinator

Could you support our food bank by volunteering as Social Media Coordinator? You’ll help us expand and develop the food bank’s reach across various digital social media platforms by promoting the activities, values and aims of the food bank. Using your strong communication and IT skills to generate relevant and engaging content you’ll help to encourage donations, dispel myths around those who use food banks, and educate people by framing the language and narrative around the causes of poverty.

To find out more or apply, see the Trussell Trust volunteering page.

Warehouse assistant

Acting as the link between food donations coming in and reaching those in crisis, you’ll support the smooth running of your local food bank. You’ll be part of a team sorting and packing food and additional items in the warehouse. You’ll be organised and have an eye for detail; this includes checking, weighing and recording stock and sorting food by date and type. This is a physical role as you’ll be on your feet a lot and you must be comfortable with some heavy lifting and maintaining a clean and safe warehouse.
