We’re recruiting for a new Foodbank Session Lead and Volunteer Coordinator.

The role will be based at Bridging the Gap (Manchester), Unit 3, Wesley Enterprise Centre, Old York Street, Hulme, Manchester, M15 5BP

About the role

  • It’s fixed term for 24 months, with possible extension subject to funding. Part time, 22 hrs per week
  • You’ll support the operational delivery of Manchester South Central Foodbank (a Trussell Trust affiliated Foodbank run by Bridging the Gap). You’ll work closely with the Foodbank Project Manager, Warehouse Coordinator, Driver and volunteer team to ensure the efficient and effective running of the foodbank. This role will include leading 2 foodbank sessions a week covering the Whalley Range, Moss Side, Hulme and Old Trafford areas (sessions are on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays and delivered at three locations across our communities). 
  • You’ll be responsible for the coordination of volunteers, including recruitment, training, scheduling and day to day management. 

This is a hands-on, diverse role, suited to a ‘people person’ that has a passion for supporting the community. We’re interested to hear from anyone that has the enthusiasm, flexibility and people skills to do this job well.

About our foodbank

Bridging the Gap was established in 2014 to address poverty and ensure access to the essentials for residents in our local area. We became a registered charity in 2017 (Charity Number:1170592 registered in England and Wales).

The primary project of Bridging the Gap is the operation of the Trussell Trust affiliated Foodbank ‘Manchester South Central’, covering the Hulme, Moss Side, Whalley Range and Old Trafford areas. We provide 3 day emergency food parcels for those in immediate need that are unable to afford the essentials. We also run further projects working to alleviate poverty, including providing holiday hunger parcels to schools; Christmas initiatives, including Toy sacks, Christmas lunches and Christmas food hampers; school uniform schemes, including a grant scheme and a preloved project; winter support schemes including fuel vouchers and access to essential winter items such as blankets and hot water bottles; and we have Advice workers based within our foodbank sessions to provide financial, housing and debt advice to clients. Our work is geared towards ensuring access to the essentials and supporting our clients out of financial crisis.

Our organisation is made up of 1 full time and 3 part time paid members of staff, we have two project managers, and two food bank operational staff, in addition to over 50 volunteers. We are a small but growing organisation with ambitions to continue to develop our work and support our community further.
